1 After this 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 went away to the other side of the Sea of Galil, that is Lake Kinnereth.
2 And a large crowd was following Him, because they saw His signs which He did on those who were sick.
3 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 went up on a mountain, and there He sat down with His talmidim.
4 And the Pesaḥ was near, the Festival of the Yahuḏim.
5 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏, lifting up His eyes and seeing a large crowd coming toward Him, said to Philippos, “Where shall we buy bread for them to eat?”
6 And this He said, trying him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
7 Philippos answered Him, “Two hundred pieces of silver worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for every one of them to receive a little.”
8 One of His talmidim, Andri, the brother of Shim’on Kĕpha, said to Him,
9 “Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many?”
10 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place, and the men, numbering about five thousand, sat down.
11 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 took the loaves, and having given thanks He distributed them to the talmidim, and the talmidim; to those sitting down. And the same with the fish, as much as they wanted.
12 And when they were filled, He said to His talmidim, “Gather the broken pieces that are left over, so that none gets wasted.”
13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
14 Then the men, having seen the sign that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 did, said, “This is truly the Naḇi who is coming to the world.”
15 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏, knowing that they were about to come and seize Him, that they might make Him sovereign, withdrew again to the mountain, alone by Himself.
16 And when evening came, His talmidim went down to the sea,
17 and entering into the boat, they were going over the sea toward Kephar Naḥum. And it had already become dark, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 had not yet come to them.
18 And the sea was rising because a great wind was blowing.
19 When they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadios, they saw 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were afraid.
20 And He said to them, “It is I, do not be afraid.”
21 They determined therefore to take Him into the boat, and at once the boat was at the land where they were going.
22 On the next day, the crowd that was standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there except that one into which His talmidim had entered, and that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 had not entered the boat with His talmidim, but His talmidim went away alone –
23 but other boats came from Kinnereth, near the place where they ate bread after the Aḏon had given thanks –
24 therefore when the crowd saw that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 was not there, nor His talmidim, they themselves also entered into the boats and came to Kephar Naḥum, seeking 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏.
25 And having found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”
26 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were satisfied.
27 “Do not labour for the food that is perishing, but for the food that is remaining to everlasting ḥai, which the Bĕn of Aḏam shall give you, for the Father, Elohim, has put His seal on Him.”
28 So they said to Him, “What should we do to work the works of Elohim?”
29 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 answered and said to them, “This is the work of Elohim, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
30 So they said to Him, “What sign then would You do, so that we see and believe You? What would You do?
31 “Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it has been written, ‘He gave them bread out of the shamayim to eat.’ ”
32 Therefore 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Mosheh did not give you the bread out of the shamayim, but My Father gives you the true bread out of the shamayim.
33 “For the bread of Elohim is He who comes down out of the shamayim and gives Ḥai to the world.”
34 So they said to Him, “Aḏonai, give us this bread always.”
35 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 said to them, “I am the bread of Ḥai. He who comes to Me shall not get hungry at all, and he who believes in Me shall not get thirsty at all.
36 “But I said to you that you have seen Me, and still do not believe.
37 “All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I shall by no means cast out.
38 “Because I have come down out of the shamayim, not to do My own desire, but the desire of Him who sent Me.
39 “This is the desire of the Father who sent Me, that all He has given Me I should not lose of it, but should raise it in the last day.
40 “And this is the desire of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Bĕn and believes in Him should possess everlasting ḥai. And I shall raise him up in the last day.”
41 Therefore the Yahuḏim were grumbling against Him, because He said, ”I am the bread which came down out of the shamayim.”
42 And they said, “Is not this 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏, the son of Yosĕph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down out of the shamayim’?”
43 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 answered and said to them, “Do not grumble with one another.
44 “No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. And I shall raise him up in the last day.
45 “It has been written in the Neḇi’im, ‘And they shall all be taught by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.’ Everyone, then, who has heard from the Father, and learned, comes to Me.
46 “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from Elohim – He has seen the Father.
47 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me possesses everlasting ḥai.
48 “I am the bread of Ḥai.
49 “Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.
50 “This is the bread which comes down out of the shamayim, so that anyone might eat of it, and not die.
51 “I am the living bread which came down out of the shamayim. If anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever. And indeed, the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the ḥai of the world.”
52 The Yahuḏim, therefore were striving with one another, saying, “How is this One able to give us flesh to eat?”
53 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 therefore said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Bĕn of Aḏam and drink His blood, you possess no ḥai in yourselves.
54 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood possesses everlasting ḥai, and I shall raise him up in the last day.
55 “For My flesh is truly food, and My blood is truly drink.
56 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood stays in Me, and I in him.
57 “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me shall live because of Me.
58 “This is the bread which came down out of the shamayim, not as your fathers ate the manna and died. He who eats this bread shall live forever.”
59 He said this in a congregation, teaching in Kephar Naḥum.
60 Therefore many of His talmidim having heard, said, “This word is hard, who is able to hear it?”
61 But 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 knowing within Himself that His talmidim were grumbling about this, said to them, “Does this make you stumble?
62 “What if you see the Bĕn of Aḏam going up where He was before?
63 “It is the Ruaḥ, that gives ḥai, the flesh does not profit at all. The words that I speak to you are Ruaḥ and are ḥai.
64 “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver Him up.
65 And He said, “Because of this I have said to you that no one is able to come to Me unless it has been given to him by My Father.”
66 From then on many of His talmidim withdrew and were not walking with Him any more.
67 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 therefore said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
68 Then Shim’on Kĕpha answered Him, “Aḏonai, to whom shall we go? You possess words of everlasting ḥai.
69 “And we have believed, and we know that You are ha’Mashiaḥ, the Bĕn of the living Elohim.”
70 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
71 He was now speaking of Yahuḏah from Qeriyoth, of Shim’on, for he, one of the twelve, was about to deliver Him up.
