At that time after the pestilence, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 spoke to Mosheh, and to El’azar son of Aharon the kohĕn, saying,
“Number the heads of the whole community of the children of Yisra’ĕl, from twenty years old and upward, all that go out to the army.”
And Mosheh and El’azar numbered the children of Yisra’ĕl after their clans, and the number of all Yisra’ĕl was seven hundred thousand, seven hundred and thirty.
And the number of the children of Lĕwi, from one month old and upward, was twenty-three thousand, but among these there was not a man of those numbered by Mosheh and Aharon in the Wilderness of Sinai.
For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had told them that they would die in the wilderness, so they all died, and not one had been left of them except Kalĕḇ son of Yephunneh, and Yahoshua son of Nun.
And it came to be after this that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Mosheh, “Say to the children of Yisra’ĕl to avenge upon Miḏyan the cause of their brothers the children of Yisra’ĕl.”
And Mosheh did so, and the children of Yisra’ĕl chose from among them twelve thousand men, being one thousand to a tribe, and they went to Miḏyan.
And the children of Yisra’ĕl fought against Miḏyan, and they slew every male, also the five princes of Miḏyan, and Bil’am son of Be’or they slew with the sword.
And the children of Yisra’ĕl took the wives of Miḏyan captive, with their little ones and their cattle, and all belonging to them.
And they took all the spoil and all the booty, and they brought it to Mosheh and to El’azar to the plains of Mo’aḇ.
And Mosheh and El’azar and all the princes of the congregation went out to meet them with joy.
And they divided all the spoil of Miḏyan, and the children of Yisra’ĕl had been avenged upon Miḏyan for the cause of their brothers the children of Yisra’ĕl.
