At that time in the fifth year after the children of Yisra’ĕl had passed over the Yardĕn, after the children of Yisra’ĕl had rested from their battle with the Kena’anites, great and fierce battles arose at that time between Eḏom and the children of the Ḥittites, and the children of the Ḥittites fought against Eḏom.
And Aḇiyanath sovereign of the Ḥittites went out in that year, that is in the thirty-first year of his reign, and a great army with him of the mighty men of the children of the Ḥittites, and he went to Sĕ’ir to fight against the children of Ĕsaw.
And Haḏaḏ the sovereign of Eḏom heard of his report, and he went out to meet him with a numerous people and strong army, and engaged in battle with him in the field of Eḏom.
And the hand of the Ḥittites prevailed over the children of Ĕsaw, and the children of the Ḥittites slew of the children of Ĕsaw, twenty-two thousand men, and all the children of Ĕsaw fled from before them.
And the children of the Ḥittites pursued them and they reached Haḏaḏ sovereign of Eḏom, who was running before them and they caught him alive, and brought him to Abiyanath sovereign of the Ḥittites.
And Aḇiyanath ordered him to be slain, and Haḏaḏ sovereign of Eḏom died in the forty-eighth year of his reign.
And the children of the Ḥittites continued their pursuit of Eḏom, and they smote them with a great slaughter and Eḏom became subject to the children of the Ḥittites.
And the children of the Ḥittites ruled over Eḏom, and Eḏom became under the hand of the children of the Ḥittites and became one reign from that day.
And from that time they could no longer lift up their heads, and their reign became one with the children of the Ḥittites.
And Aḇiyanath placed officers in Eḏom and all the children of Eḏom became subject and compulsory labour to Aḇiyanath, and Aḇiyanath turned back to his own land of the Ḥittites.
And when he returned he renewed his reign and built for himself a spacious and fortified palace for a royal residence, and reigned safely over the children of the Ḥittites and over Eḏom.
In those days, after the children of Yisra’ĕl had driven away all the Kena’anites and the Amorites, Yahoshua was old and advanced in years.
And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Yahoshua, “You are old, advanced in life, and a great part of the land remains to be possessed.
“Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and to the half tribe of Menashsheh.” And Yahoshua rose up and did as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had spoken to him.
And he divided the whole land to the tribes of Yisra’ĕl as an inheritance according to their divisions.
But to the tribe at Lĕwi he gave no inheritance. The offerings of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 are their inheritance as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had spoken of them by the hand of Mosheh.
And Yahoshua gave Mount Ḥeḇron to Kalĕḇ son of Yephunneh, one portion above his brothers, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had spoken through Mosheh.
Therefore Ḥeḇron became an inheritance to Kalĕḇ and his children to this day.
And Yahoshua divided the whole land by lots to all Yisra’ĕl for an inheritance, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded him.
And the children of Yisra’ĕl gave cities to the Lĕwites from their own inheritance, and portions for their cattle, and property. As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded Mosheh so the children of Yisra’ĕl did, and they divided the land by lot whether great or small.
And they went to inherit the land according to their boundaries, and the children of Yisra’ĕl gave to Yahoshua son of Nun an inheritance among them.
By the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 they gave to him the city which he requested – Timnath Seraḥ in Mount Ephrayim, and he built the city and dwelt in it.
These are the inheritances which El’azar the kohĕn and Yahoshua son of Nun and the heads of the fathers of the tribes portioned out to the children of Yisra’ĕl by lot in Shiloh, before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, at the door of the Mishkan, and they left off dividing the land.
And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave the land to the Yisra’elites, and they possessed it as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had spoken to them, and as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had sworn to their ancestors.
And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave to the Yisra’ĕlites rest from all their enemies around them, and no man stood up against them. And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 delivered all their enemies into their hands, and not one word failed of all the good which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had spoken to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 performed every word.
And Yahoshua called to all the children of Yisra’ĕl and he baraḵ them, and commanded them to serve 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and he afterward sent them away, and they went each man to his city, and each man to his inheritance.
And the children of Yisra’ĕl served 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 all the days of Yahoshua, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave them rest from all around them, and they dwelt safely in their cities.
And it came to be in those days, that Aḇiyanath sovereign of the Ḥittites died, in the thirty-eighth year of his reign, that is the seventh year of his reign over Eḏom, and they buried him in his palace which he had built for himself, and Latinus reigned in his place fifty years.
And during his reign he brought out an army, and he went and fought against the inhabitants of Britannia and Kernania, the children of Elisha son of Yawan, and he prevailed over them and made them compulsory labour.
He then heard that Eḏom had revolted from under the hand of the Ḥittites, and Latinus went to them and smote them and subdued them, and placed them under the hand of the children of the Ḥittites, and Eḏom became one reign with the children of the Ḥittites all the days.
And for many years there was no sovereign in Eḏom, and their reign was with the children of the Ḥittites and their sovereign.
And it came to be in the twenty-sixth year after the children of Yisra’ĕl had passed over the Yardĕn, that is the sixty-sixth year after the children of Yisra’ĕl had departed from Mitsrayim, that Yahoshua was old, advanced in years, being one hundred and eight years old in those days.
And Yahoshua called to all Yisra’ĕl, to their elders, their judges and leaders, after 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had given to all the Yisra’ĕlites rest from all their enemies round about. And Yahoshua said to the elders of Yisra’ĕl, and to their judges, “Look, I am old, advanced in years, and you have seen what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has done to all the nations whom He has driven away from before you, for it is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 who has fought for you.
“Now therefore, strengthen yourselves to guard and to do all the Words of the Torah of Mosheh. Not to turn from it to the right or to the left, and not to come among those nations who are left in the land. Neither shall you make mention of the name of their mighty ones, but you shall cling to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Elohim, as you have done to this day.”
And Yahoshua greatly encouraged the children of Yisra’ĕl to serve 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 all their days.
And all the Yisra’ĕlites said, “We will serve 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 our Elohim all our days, we and our children, and our children’s children, and our seed forever.”
And Yahoshua made a covenant with the people on that day, and he sent the children of Yisra’ĕl away, and they went each man to his inheritance and to his city.
And it came to be in those days, when the children of Yisra’ĕl were dwelling safely in their cities, that they buried the coffins of the tribes of their ancestors, which they had brought up from Mitsrayim, each man in the inheritance of his children. The twelve sons of Ya’aqoḇ the children of Yisra’ĕl buried, each man in the possession of his children.
And these are the names of the cities wherein they buried the twelve sons of Ya’aqoḇ, whom the children of Yisra’ĕl had brought up from Mitsrayim:
And they buried Re’uḇĕn and Gaḏ on this side of the Yardĕn, in Romia, which Mosheh had given to their children.
And Shim’on and Lĕwi they buried in the city Mauda, which he had given to the children of Shim’on, and the surrounding area of the city was for the children of Lĕwi.
And Yahuḏah they buried in the city of Binyamin opposite Bĕyth Leḥem.
And the bones of Yissasḵar and Zeḇulun they buried in Tsidon, in the portion which fell to their children.
And Dan was buried in the city of his children in Eshta’ol, and Naphtali and Ashĕr they buried in Qaḏĕsh Naphtali, each man in his place which he had given to his children.
And the bones of Yosĕph they buried in Sheḵem, in the part of the field which Ya’aqoḇ had purchased from Ḥamor, and which came to Yosĕph as an inheritance.
And they buried Binyamin in Yerushalayim opposite the Yeḇusite, which was given to the children of Binyamin. The children of Yisra’ĕl buried their fathers, each man in the city of his children.
And at the end of two years, Yahoshua son of Nun died, one hundred and ten years old. And the time which Yahoshua judged Yisra’ĕl was twenty-eight years, and Yisra’ĕl served 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 all the days of his life.
And the rest of the acts of Yahoshua and his battles and his reproofs with which he reproved Yisra’ĕl, and all which he had commanded them, and the names of the cities which the children of Yisra’ĕl possessed in his days, see, they are written in the Book of the words of Yahoshua to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and in the Book of the wars of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, which Mosheh and Yahoshua and the children of Yisra’ĕl had written.
And the children of Yisra’ĕl buried Yahoshua in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath Seraḥ, which was given to him in Mount Ephrayim.
And El’azar son of Aharon died in those days, and they buried him in a hill belonging to Pineḥas his son, which was given to him in Mount Ephrayim.
