And Dawiḏ was old and satisfied with days, and he made his son Shelomoh to reign over Yisra’ĕl,
and he gathered all the rulers of Yisra’ĕl, with the kohenim and the Lĕwites.
And the Lĕwites were numbered from the age of thirty years and above. And their number, head by head, was thirty-eight thousand males.
Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and six thousand were officers and judges,
and four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand to give praise to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “which I made for giving praise.”
And Dawiḏ divided them into divisions, of the sons of Lĕwi: of Gĕreshon, Qehath, and Merari.
Of the Gĕreshonites: La’dan and Shim’i.
The sons of La’dan: Yeḥi’ĕl the head, then Zĕthan and Yo’ĕl, three.
The sons of Shim’i: Shelomith, and Ḥazi’ĕl, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of La’dan.
And the sons of Shim’i: Yaḥath, Zina, and Ye’ush, and Beri’ah. These were the four sons of Shim’i.
And Yaḥath was the head and Zizah the second. But Ye’ush and Beri’ah did not have many sons, so they were reckoned as one father’s house.
The sons of Qehath: Amram, Yitshar, Ḥeḇron, and Uzzi’ĕl, four.
The sons of Amram: Aharon and Mosheh. And Aharon was qadosh, he and his sons forever, that he should qadosh the most qodesh, to burn incense before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, to serve Him, and to give the beraḵah in His Name forever.
Now Mosheh, the man of Elohim, his sons were named after the tribe of Lĕwi.
The sons of Mosheh: Gĕreshom and Eli’ezer.
The sons of Gĕreshom: Sheḇu’ĕl was the head.
And the sons of Eli’ezer: Reḥaḇyah was the head. And Eli’ezer had no other sons, but the sons of Reḥaḇyah were very many.
The sons of Yitshar: Shelomith was the head.
The sons of Ḥeḇron: Yeriyahu was the head, Amaryah the second, Yaḥazi’ĕl the third, and Yeqam’am the fourth.
The sons of Uzzi’ĕl: Miḵah was the head and Yishshiyah the second.
The sons of Merari: Maḥli and Mushi. The sons of Maḥli: El’azar and Qish.
And El’azar died, and had no sons, but only daughters. And their brothers, the sons of Qish, took them.
The sons of Mushi: Maḥli, Ĕḏer, and Yerĕmoth, three.
These were the sons of Lĕwi by their fathers’ houses, the heads of the fathers’ houses as they were counted head by head by the number of their names, who did the work for the service of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, from the age of twenty years and above.
For Dawiḏ said, “𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 Elohim of Yisra’ĕl has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Yerushalayim forever,”
and also of the Lĕwites, “They shall no longer bear the Mishkan, or any of the vessels for its service.”
For by the last words of Dawiḏ the Lĕwites were numbered from twenty years old and above,
because their duty was to help the sons of Aharon in the service of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, in the courtyards and in the rooms, in the cleansing of all that was qodesh, and the work of the service of the House of Elohim,
both with the showbread and the fine flour for the grain offering, and with the unleavened cakes and what is baked on the griddle, and with what is mixed and with all kinds of measures and sizes;
and to stand every morning to thank and praise 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and so at evening;
and for all the burnt offerings to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 on the Shabbathoth and on the New Moons and on the Appointed Times, by number according to the Right-Ruling upon them, continually before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄;
and that they should guard the duty of the Tent of Appointment, the duty of the qodesh place, and the duty of the sons of Aharon their brothers in the service of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.
