1 And it came to be in those days that a decree went out from Kaisar Augustus for all the world to be registered.
2 This took place as a first registration while Quirinius was governing Suria.
3 And all were going to be registered, each one to his own city.
4 And Yosĕph also went up from Galil, out of the city of Natsareth to Yahuḏah, to the city of Dawiḏ, which is called Bĕyth Leḥem, because he was of the house and lineage of Dawiḏ,
5 to be registered with Miryam, who was engaged to him – being pregnant.
6 And it came to be, that while they were there, the days were filled for her to give birth.
7 And she gave birth to her first-born Bĕn, and wrapped Him up, and laid Him down in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in a lodging place.
8 And in the same country there were shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And look, a messenger of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 stood before them, and the esteem of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
10 And the messenger said to them, “Do not be afraid, for look, I bring you good news of great joy which shall be to all people.
11 “Because there was born to you today in the city of Dawiḏ a Saviour, who is ha’Mashiaḥ, the Aḏon.
12 “And this is the sign to you: You shall find an infant wrapped up, lying in a feeding trough.”
13 And suddenly there was with the messenger a crowd of the host of the shamayim praising Elohim and saying,
14 “Esteem to Elohim in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased!”
15 And it came to be, when the messengers had gone away from them into the shamayim, that the shepherds said to each other, “Indeed, let us go to Bĕyth Leḥem and see this matter that has taken place, which the Aḏon has made known to us.”
16 And they came in haste and found Miryam and Yosĕph, and the infant lying in a feeding trough.
17 And having seen, they made known the matter which was spoken to them concerning the child.
18 And all those who heard marvelled at what the shepherds said to them.
19 But Miryam kept all these matters, considering them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds returned, boasting and praising Elohim for all they had heard and seen, as it was spoken to them.
21 And when eight days were completed for Him to be circumcised, His Name was called 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏, the Name given by the messenger before He was conceived in the womb.
22 And when the days of her cleansing according to the Torah of Mosheh were completed, they brought Him to Yerushalayim to present Him to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 –
23 as it has been written in the Torah of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called qodesh to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄” –
24 and to give an offering according to what is said in the Torah of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
25 And see, there was a man in Yerushalayim whose name was Shim’on, and this man was righteous and dedicated, looking for the comforting of Yisra’ĕl. And the Ruaḥ ha’Qodesh was upon him.
26 And it had been revealed to him by the Ruaḥ ha’Qodesh that he would not see death before he sees ha’Mashiaḥ of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.
27 And he came in the Ruaḥ into the Miqdash. And as the parents brought in the Child 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏, to do for Him according to the usual practice of the Torah,
28 then he took Him up in his arms and baraḵ Elohim and said,
29 “Now let Your servant go in peace, O Aḏonai, according to Your word,
30 for my eyes have seen Your deliverance,
31 which You have prepared before the face of all the peoples,
32 a light for the unveiling of the gentiles, and the esteem of Your people Yisra’ĕl.”
33 And Yosĕph and His mother were marvelling at what was said about Him.
34 And Shim’on baraḵ them, and said to Miryam His mother, “See, this One is appointed for a fall and rising of many in Yisra’ĕl, and for a sign spoken against –
35 and a sword shall pierce through your own being also – so as to reveal the thoughts of many hearts.”
36 And there was Ḥannah, a neḇiyah, a daughter of Penu’ĕl, of the tribe of Ashĕr. She was advanced in years, and had lived with a husband seven years from her maidenhood,
37 and she was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not leave the Miqdash, but served Elohim with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And she, coming in at that moment, gave thanks to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and spoke of Him to all who were waiting for redemption in Yerushalayim.
39 And when they had accomplished all according to the Torah of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, they returned to Galil, to their city Natsareth.
40 And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom. And the favour of Elohim was upon Him.
41 And His parents went to Yerushalayim every year at the Festival of the Pesaḥ.
42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Yerushalayim according to the practice of the Festival.
43 When they had accomplished the days, as they returned, the Child 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 stayed behind in Yerushalayim. And His parents did not know it,
44 but thinking He was in the company, they went a day’s journey, and were seeking Him among the relatives and friends.
45 And not having found Him, they returned to Yerushalayim, seeking Him.
46 And it came to be, after three days, that they found Him in the Miqdash, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
48 And having seen Him, they were amazed. And His mother said to Him, “Bĕn, why have You done this to us? See, Your father and I have been anxiously seeking You.”
49 And He said to them, “Why were you seeking Me? Did you not know that I had to be at that of My Father?”
50 But they did not understand the word which He spoke to them.
51 And He went down with them and came to Natsareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these matters in her heart.
52 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 and men.
