YASHAR 5 (Jasher 5)

And it came to be in the eighty-fourth year of the life of Noaḥ, that Enosh son of Shĕth died – He was nine hundred and five years old at his death.

And in the one hundred and seventy ninth year of the life of Noaḥ, Qĕynan son of Enosh died, and all the days of Qĕynan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.

And in the two hundred and thirty-fourth year of the life of Noaḥ, Mahalal’ĕl son of Qĕynan died, and the days of Mahalal’ĕl were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died.

And Yereḏ son of Mahalal’ĕl died in those days, in the three hundred and thirty-sixth year of the life of Noaḥ; and all the days of Yereḏ were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died.

And all who followed 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 died in those days, before they saw the evil which Elohim declared to do on earth.

And after the passing of many years, in the four hundred and eightieth year of the life of Noaḥ, when all those men, who followed 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had died away from among the sons of men, and only Methushelaḥ was then left, Elohim spoke to Noaḥ and Methushelaḥ, saying,

“Speak, and proclaim to the sons of men, saying, ‘Thus said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “Return from your evil ways and forsake your works, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will repent of the evil that He declared to do to you, so that it shall not come to pass.”

‘For thus said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “See I give you a period of one hundred and twenty years; if you will turn to Me and forsake your evil ways, then I will also turn away from the evil which I told you, and it shall not exist,” said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.’ ”

And Noaḥ and Methushelaḥ spoke all the words of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 to the sons of men, day after day, constantly speaking to them.

But the sons of men would not listen to them, nor incline their ears to their words, and they were stiff-necked.

And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 granted them a period of one hundred and twenty years, saying, “If they will return, then Elohim will repent of the evil, so as not to destroy the earth.”

Noaḥ son of Lemeḵ refrained from taking a wife in those days, to bring forth children, for he said, “Indeed now Elohim will destroy the earth, why then shall I bring forth children?”

And Noaḥ was a righteous man, he was perfect in his generation, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 chose him to raise up seed from his seed upon the face of the earth.

And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Noaḥ, “Take for yourself a wife, and bring forth children, for I have seen you righteous before me in this generation.

“And you shall raise up seed, and your children with you, in the midst of the earth.” And Noaḥ went and took a wife, and he chose Na’amah, the daughter of Ḥanoḵ, and she was five hundred and eighty years old.

And Noaḥ was four hundred and ninety-eight years old, when he took Na’amah for a wife.

And Na’amah conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Yepheth, saying, “Elohim has enlarged me in the earth.” And she conceived again and bore a son, and he called his name Shĕm, saying, “Elohim has made me a remnant, to raise up seed in the midst of the earth.”

And Noaḥ was five hundred and two years old when Na’amah bore Shĕm, and the boys grew up and went in the Ways of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, in all that Methushelaḥ and Noaḥ their father taught them.

And Lemeḵ the father of Noaḥ, died in those days; yet even so he did not go with all his heart in the Ways of his father, and he died in the hundred and ninety-fifth year of the life of Noaḥ.

And all the days of Lemeḵ were seven hundred and seventy years, and he died.

And all the sons of men who knew 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, died in that year before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 brought evil upon them; for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 willed them to die, so as not to see the evil that Elohim would bring upon their brothers and relatives, as He had so declared to do.

In that time, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Noaḥ and Methushelaḥ, “Stand up and proclaim to the sons of men all the words that I spoke to you in those days. Maybe they will turn from their evil ways, and I will then repent of the evil and will not bring it.”

And Noaḥ and Methushelaḥ stood, and spoke in the hearing of the sons of men, all that Elohim had spoken concerning them.

But the sons of men would not listen, neither would they incline their ears to all their words.

And it came to be after this that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Noaḥ, “The end of all flesh is come before Me, because of their evil deeds, and see, I will destroy the earth.

“And take for yourself gopher wood, and go to a certain place and make a large ark, and place it in that spot.

“And thus shall you make it; three hundred ammah its length, fifty ammah wide and thirty ammah high.

“And you shall make for yourself a door, open at its side, and to an ammah you shall finish above, and cover it within and without with pitch.

“And see, I will bring the flood of waters upon the earth, and all flesh be destroyed, from under the shamayim all that is upon earth shall perish.

“And you and your household shall go and gather two each of all living creatures, male and female, and shall bring them to the ark, to raise up seed from them upon earth.

“And gather unto you all food that is eaten by all the animals, that there may be food for you and for them.

“And you shall choose for your sons three maidens, from the daughters of men, and they shall be wives to your sons.”

And Noaḥ rose up, and he made the ark, in the place where Elohim had commanded him, and Noaḥ did as Elohim had ordered him.

In his five hundred and ninety-fifth year, Noaḥ began to make the ark, and he made the ark in five years, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded.

Then Noaḥ took the three daughters of Elyaqim, son of Methushelaḥ, for wives for his sons, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded Noaḥ.

And it came to be at that time Methushelaḥ son of Ḥanoḵ died, he was nine hundred and sixty years old at his death.
