YIRMEYAHU 28

And it came to be in that year, at the beginning of the reign of Tsiḏqiyahu sovereign of Yahuḏah, in the fourth year and in the fifth month, that Ḥananyah son of Azzur the naḇi, who was from Giḇ’on, spoke to me in the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 in the presence of the kohenim and of all the people, saying,

“Thus spoke 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘I have broken the yoke of the sovereign of Baḇel.

Within two years I am going to bring back to this place all the vessels of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, that Neḇuḵaḏnetstsar sovereign of Baḇel removed from this place and took to Baḇel.

‘And I am going to bring back to this place Yeḵonyahu son of Yahoyaqim, sovereign of Yahuḏah, with all the exiles of Yahuḏah who went to Baḇel,’ declares 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, ‘for I am going to break the yoke of the sovereign of Baḇel.’ ”

Then the naḇi Yirmeyahu spoke to the naḇi Ḥananyah in the presence of the kohenim and in the presence of all the people who stood in the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄,

and the naḇi Yirmeyahu said, “Amĕn! 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 do so! 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 establish your words which you have prophesied, to bring back the vessels of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 and all the exiles from Baḇel to this place!

“Only, hear now this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people:

“The neḇi’im who have been before me and before you of old naḇu against many lands and great reigns, of battle and of evil and of pestilence.

“The naḇi who naḇa of peace – when the word of the naḇi comes to pass, that naḇi is known as one whom 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has truly sent.”

And Ḥananyah the naḇi took the yoke off the naḇi Yirmeyahu’s neck and broke it.

And Ḥananyah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, ‘So I shall break the yoke of Neḇuḵaḏnetstsar sovereign of Baḇel from the neck of all nations within two years.’ ” And the naḇi Yirmeyahu went his way.

And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 came to Yirmeyahu, after Ḥananyah the naḇi had broken the yoke from the neck of the naḇi Yirmeyahu, saying,

“Go and speak to Ḥananyah, saying, ‘Thus said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “You have broken the yokes of wood, but you shall make yokes of iron instead.”

‘For thus said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, “I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, to serve Neḇuḵaḏnetstsar sovereign of Baḇel. And they shall serve him. And I have also given him the beasts of the field.” ’ ”

And the naḇi Yirmeyahu said to Ḥananyah the naḇi, “Listen, please, Ḥananyah, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has not sent you, but you have made this people trust in falsehood.

“Therefore thus said 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, ‘See, I am sending you away from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, for you have spoken apostasy against 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.’ ”

And Ḥananyah the naḇi died the same year, in the seventh month.
